Preemptive evacuation ordered in CamSur due to Typhoon Nina

NAGA CITY, Camarines Sur—Responding to the threat of Typhoon “Nina” (international name: Nock-ten), Camarines Sur Gov. Miguel “Migz” Luis Villafuerte has ordered preemptive evacuation of families living in danger zones and those living in houses made of light materials Friday night.

Villafuerte ordered the evacuation of families beginning Friday night until Saturday to residents living within the one-kilometer strip of land along the coastal villages and along riverbanks and lakes.

He also ordered evacuated the families living in the low-lying and landslide-prone areas and those living in houses made of light materials that can stand winds of up to 120 kilometers per hour (kph) only.

As of early Saturday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that Typhoon Nina packed maximum sustained winds of 135 kph near the center and gusts of up to 165 kph

“These families should be evacuated on safe grounds to ensure the safety of our constituents on or before Dec. 24. We are targeting zero casualty this time,” Villafuerte said.

He said his directive is addressed to the municipal mayors who are also the chair of the municipal disaster risk reduction and management council.

Villafuerte also ordered all mayors and barangay captains to enforce “no fishing policy” starting Dec. 23. Pagasa predicted “Nina” to make landfall over Catanduanes on Sunday, Christmas day.
