Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello on Wednesday said that the government has been succeeding in its efforts to wipe out “endo” or end of contract and illegal contractualization.

“Hindi kami nawawala sa layunin namin na wakasan ang endo at iba pang uri ng iligal na kasunduan sa kontrata,” Bello said in a statement.

He said that a total of 32,437 workers were now enjoying job security since the start of the campaign to end endo, after their employers and contractors turned their employment into regular status.

Some of the companies DOLE looks out for are SM, 7-Eleven, and Rustan’s, which earlier committed to regularize their workers. Bello confirmed that these companies complied and made some of their employees regular.

Bello added that emergency employment benefits of P3,200,550 were given to 1,123 displaced workers under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD).

“This is just temporary employment for displaced workers who were affected by our campaign against ‘endo’. We will also be providing them with livelihood or skills training,” he said. JE/rga
