Armed man killed in Rizal gunfight

SAN PEDRO CITY—A man, who police said was carrying a handgun, was killed in a shootout in Binangonan town in Rizal on Tuesday evening, a police report on Wednesday said.

According to a report from Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (Calabarzon), members of the Binangonan police were conducting a surveillance in Barangay (village) Palangoy around 10 p.m. when they chanced upon the man, later identified only as alias “Liit.”

“A handgun was obviously tucked in his waist,” the report read, urging the operatives to call the man’s attention. But instead of turning himself in, the man reportedly ran prompting a brief chase.

The report said the suspect then fired twice at the police, prompting them to return fire “in self defense.” The man was instantly killed.
