Longer nights in PH starting Wednesday
The Philippines will start to experience longer nights starting Wednesday night as the sun reaches the winter solstice.
The sun will reach the winter solstice, a phenomenon which marks the shortest day and longest night of the year, at 6:44 p.m. (PST), the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its astronomical diary.
“This marks the time when the Sun lies at its farthest point south of the equator,” Pagasa said.
This means Philippine nights will be longer than daytime and the Earth has completed another annual circuit around the Sun.
The winter solstice also means the onset of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and summer in the Southern Hemisphere.
Pagasa said sunrise for Wednesday is set at 6:16 a.m. while the sun sets at 5:32 p.m. CDG
