The number coding scheme for private vehicles will be suspended on Dec. 23, Friday, in anticipation of the exodus of Metro Manila residents going to the provinces for the holiday break, the Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (i-ACT) said on Monday.
In an advisory, i-ACT said the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will be also lifting the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) on Dec. 29 in time for the commemoration of Rizal Day the following day.
MMDA general manager Tim Orbos said the number coding suspension will allow the public to use their vehicles in travelling to their destinations outside Metro Manila, especially with people visiting families and relatives in the provinces for the Christmas season.
“These will afford them the opportunity to use their vehicles especially with provincial bus trips fully booked by this time,” Orbos said in a statement.
The i-ACT earlier lifted the number coding scheme for provincial buses starting 1 p.m. Dec. 22, on Dec. 23 and 29, and Jan. 2, 2017. The UVVRP will also be suspended on Dec. 26, a special non-working holiday, and Dec. 30, Rizal Day. JE/rga
