BAGUIO City, Philippines—-Five people were killed and 38 others hurt when a truck carrying wedding guests fell into a ravine in Bauko, Mt. Province, Saturday night, reports said.
Anacleto Tangilag, chief of the provincial disaster risk reduction and management council (PDRRMC) in Mt. Province, said the Isuzu Elf truck was cruising a section of the Halsema Highway in Sitio (settlement of ) Lukib in Barangay (village) Monamon Sur, Bauko, when its driver lost control of the vehicle around 7:45 p.m.
The truck fell into an 80-meter-deep ravine, killing Feliza Lagenio, Salvador Palag-oc, Caroline Lartec, Efren Bucasan and Dominga Angdasan.
Superintendent Englebert Soriano, spokesman of the Cordillera police, said the 38 injured passengers were taken to hospitals in Baguio City, Benguet and Mt. Province.
Soriano said the truck driver, Tomas Magadia, survived and was taken into custody by the Bauko police.
Police and PDRRMC reports said it was raining and the highway was blanketed by heavy fog when the accident happened.
