LUCENA CITY – Two helmetless motorcycle riders were killed in an accident along the Quirino Highway in Tagkawayan, Quezon province, Wednesday evening, police said.
Senior Supt. Rhoderick Armamento, Quezon police director, said victims Richard Braza and his back rider Cyrus Latog were traversing the highway in Barangay San Vicente going home to Del Gallego, Camarines Sur, when they collided with a Manila-bound Raymond Transport bus at about 10:30 p.m.
The victims died while on the way to the Tagkawayan District Hospital. The bus driver, Michael Malate, is detained at the town police lock-up jail.
The victims were not wearing helmets for protection, according to a police investigator.
Wearing crash helmets for all riders of two-wheeled motor vehicles is mandated under Republic Act No. 10054, otherwise known the motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
Armamento advised holiday travelers passing Quezon province to strictly observe the rules of safe driving. CBB
