Security cameras to be set up in two Cebu City cemeteries

/ 09:44 AM October 30, 2011

Security cameras will be installed in the two biggest cemeteries in Cebu City—the Calamba and Carreta cemeteries.

The Closed-circuit television cameras installed in strategic places in these cemeteries are part of the security measures authorities are implementing for the All Souls’ and All Saints’ Days celebration next week.

Senior Supt. Buenafe, Cebu City Police Office  director, said they saw no major problems in smaller cemeteries and so the cameras would only be installed in major cemeteries in Cebu City.

Aside from the cameras, police assistance centers will also be set up in every cemetery in the city.

At least 23 blue guards from security agencies and 250 barangay volunteers, who are members of the Barangay Peace Keeping Action Team, will help police secure the public during next week’s celebrations.

Buenafe said the barangay volunteers would wear dark shirts with  BPAT letters printed at the back of their shirts.

Police also reminded the public that starting today until Tuesday the public wouldn’t be allowed to bring sharp objects inside the cemeteries.

Meanwhile, the North Bus Terminal management has also placed at least eight security cameras at the terminal to secure the traveling public and added eight more blue guards.

The South Bus Terminal run by the Capitol also beefed up security and set up medical and assistance centers for travelers at the terminal./Correspondents Chito  Aragon and Gabriel Bonjoc with  Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
