U.P. employee needs help for kidney transplant

At 45 years old, Jose Angelito “Lito” Aurelio is in the prime of life and enjoying a promising career. A silent, creeping disease, however, is threatening to take everything away from him.

An employee of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City, Aurelio needs a kidney transplant after being diagnosed with end stage renal disease. Because of his disease, he is also suffering from chronic anemia.

In the past month, he has been confined twice at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City and Quezon City. Mounting medical bills and the maintenance medicine prescribed by doctors have sapped his financial resources.

To help address his chronic anemia, he has received seven units of blood in the past month alone, including injections of erythropoietin (Eprex) to help raise his red blood cell count. He also undergoes four-hour dialysis sessions three times a week.

Lito’s nephrologist, however, has recommended that he undergo a kidney transplant as soon as a qualified donor is found. Lito’s blood type is B+. His family needs to raise between P 1.5 million to P 2 million for the operation.

Kind hearts who wish to be possible kidney donors may contact his sister, Julie, at 0928-5027033 or e-mail her at julieaurelio@gmail.com. The family also accepts financial aid which may be deposited through Philippine Savings Bank (Matalino branch) account number 166361011081, under the name of Julie Anne Miranda Aurelio.
