DAVAO CITY – The family and media colleagues of the late Inquirer photographer Gene Boyd Lumawag said commemorating his death this year would be different from previous years’.
Southeast Asian Games biking gold medalist Dino Carpio, one of those behind the event, said this year’s commemoration of Lumawag’s death would raise funds for indigent patients at the Mindanao Burn Center of the Southern Philippines Medical Center.
The event, dubbed “Padyak Para Kay Boyd Para sa Burn Center,” will be held Nov. 20. At least 35 bike clubs will take part in it, said Carpio. It is also sponsored by Inquirer with the Davao Pobreng Bikers Association led by Carpio.
The fun ride has two separate routes, one for the 10-kilometer ride and another for the 40-kilometer ride. Registration fee is P250 and forms are available at the Philippine Daily Inquirer Office here, Mindanao Times, 3M-J Trading, Norkis-Davao and VHMK Marketing.
Lumawag was 26 when shot dead while taking sunset photos for Mindanews at the Jolo pier on Nov. 12, 2004.
