Robredo: I have no political skill to plot Duterte ouster

COMPOSTELA VALLEY – Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday said she has no “political skill” to create a sinister plot to unseat President Rodrigo Duterte, parrying insinuations of House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.

Saying she has always been reluctant to take on any leadership roles, Robredo said it would be unlikely for her to organize people and lead an ouster movement against the President.

“Sa tingin ko sa lahat ng nakakakilala sa akin, halimbawa iyong partido nga namin, mayroon akong reluctance to take on the leadership,” Robredo told reporters here in Mankayo town where she visited a resettlement area for Typhoon Pablo victims.

(I think that those who know me, our party for example, I have a reluctance to take on the leadership.)

A day after stepping down as chair of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, Robredo went on with her housing duties and checked the situation of shelter projects here in Barangay (village) Poblacion.

“Tingin ko, wala akong ganoong political skill (I think I don’t have that kind of political skill),” she said.

The Davao del Norte representative on Monday brought up the possibility that Robredo was the one plotting to oust Duterte.

Alvarez, a staunch Duterte supporter, was reacting to the issue of an alleged plot by the Duterte administration to remove Robredo from the vice presidency.

Also on Monday, Robredo formally tendered her resignation as housing chair and member of the Duterte Cabinet after she received an order from the President stopping her from attending Cabinet meetings.

Alvarez said Duterte has more important problems to think about, especially the eradication of the drug problem in the country, for him to come up with such plot. JE/rga
