4 people killed in motorcycle crash in Bohol

DAUIS, Bohol — Four people were killed in a motorcycle collision in this town on Sunday evening, police said Monday.

PO3 Joemer Miculob, investigator of the Dauis police station, identified the fatalities as Carmel Vizande, 35, a resident of Purok 5 in Barangay Mayacabac in this town; Marjun Bolunos, 28, a resident of Tagbilaran City; and his two backriders, cousins Earl Piquit, 24, and Jason Piquit, both residents of Panglao town.

Investigations showed that Vizande was traveling to Panglao town from Tagbilaran City when his motorcycle slammed into the motorcycle driven by Bolunos who was heading towards Tagbilaran at around 7 p.m. on Sunday along the national road in the villages of Bingag and Dao in this town.

Vizande and Bolunos died while being taken to Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran, the province’s capital. Bolunos’ backriders, the Piquit cousins died hours later in the hospital.

Miculob said both motorcycles were traveling at high speed.

He said Bolunos’ motorcycle had no functioning headlight while there were no lampposts along the road.

He added both drivers were under the influence of alcohol.

“The four victims were not wearing helmet or any protective headgear,” Miculob said. SFM/rga
