MMDA, LTO join forces vs drunk, drugged drivers

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has tapped the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for a stricter implementation of the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013 or Republic Act No. 10586.

A memorandum of agreement was signed by the two agencies on Thursday, the MMDA said in a Facebook post.

About 50 traffic enforcers from the MMDA have undergone training and deputization by the LTO for the enforcement of the RA 10586.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies via hosting the Global Road Safety Partnership under the Bloomberg Initiatives for Global Road Safety supported the collaboration.

Motorists found to be violating the RA 10586 may face a penalty of three months’ imprisonment and a fine ranging from P20,000 to P500,000. Those who refuse sobriety and drug tests shall be penalized by the confiscation and automatic revocation of their driver’s licenses./rga
