With Andres Bonifacio as a stellar example, President Duterte on Wednesday urged Filipinos to devote their lives to a worthy cause and get involved in important issues concerning their communities and the country.
Mr. Duterte said the commemoration of Bonifacio Day should inspire Filipinos to live up to the the example of the Katipunan founder whose spirit “remains patriotic, unfettered and independent.”
“Every waking day is an invitation to dedicate our lives for a worthy cause; to uplift the quality of life of our countrymen, and to bring back our pride and honor in our identity as a people,” he said in his message.
People should use their voices for issues they believe in and which have an impact on their lives, he said.
Collective voice
“Our government calls on the public to get involved in community and national issues that affect our lives. May we all find the strength to tap into our collective voice so that we can know ourselves better and understand our struggles in history,” he said.
Mr. Duterte also heaped praise on Bonifacio, “the Great Plebeian from Tondo” whose life and legacy have inspired generations and shaped the country’s history.
