FVR to Bongbong: ‘Don’t be in a hurry’ to become president

Former President Fidel V. Ramos has a piece of advice for ex-Senator Bongbong Marcos: Don’t rush into presidency.

“Please don’t be in a hurry,” Ramos said when asked about his advice for the son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos during the Meet Inquirer forum on Wednesday.

After all, Marcos is still young and has more time to work his way up to the presidency, Ramos, first cousin of the elder Marcos, said.

“Bongbong is still very young in terms of presidency. Imee (Marcos) is now 60 and (Bongbong) is maybe couple of years younger and so he can work up to presidency in due time but please don’t be in a hurry,”  Ramos said.

Ramos was one of the key players in the February 1986 people power revolt against Marcos that toppled his decades-long dictatorial regime.

“That’s my core advice for everybody, until you put in all the necessary forms for the poor people of our society— more jobs, better income, better environment, better access to transportation and education and food,” he said.

He also asked President Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo to stick together and unite for the country.

The younger Marcos is protesting the election results of the vice presidential race after Robredo won by a slim margin over the former Senator.

Duterte, in a speech before a Filipino community in China, hinted that Robredo could be replaced by Bongbong if the latter wins his case before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal.
