Ex-soldier nabbed for carrying firearms in Danao City
An ex-army soldier suspected to be involved in gun-running was arrested by police in barangay Dunggo-an, Danao City, northern Cebu.
Police said assorted firearms were seized from Ariel Bolivar, 47. He was arrested on board a passenger boat bound for Surigao via Isabel, Leyte.
Seized from Bolivar were two .38 revolvers, three .45 pistols, six magazines of a .45 pistol and one assault rifle with four magazines.
The seized items were worth P50,000, said police.
Police said Bolivar had successfully transported guns in the past until his arrest at dawn yesterday.
Insp. Romulo Torralba, deputy chief of the Danao City Police Station, said his men were tipped off about the presence of an armed man in the area and rushed over to check. Charges of illegal possession of firearms will be filed against Bolivar.
