Guard shoots resto bar customer after argument over bill

MANILA, Philippines – A security guard of a restaurant in Marikina City shot and wounded a 19-year-old customer on Monday dawn after a heated argument over the bill, police said.

The victim Aljon Cailet, a worker at a bakery shop in Barangay Sto. Niño, Marikina City, only wanted a few drinks before ending a day’s work but ended up shot in the abdomen by a still unidentified guard around 4 a.m. on Monday.

The guard was working for Wild Fox Resto Bar located on Dela Paz St., Barangay Sto. Niño, Marikina City.

SPO2 Greco Gonzales, case investigator, said Cailet and his co-worker Roldan Quillano were unusually frisked for weapons by the on-duty guard before they could enter the bar.

But Quillano told the police they let the incident pass to avoid trouble.

After finishing several bottles of beer, the two noticed that their bill did not add up. An argument with bar employees ensued when the two customers complained.

“They all settled the case peacefully when the victim agreed to pay. But while the two customers were outside the bar waiting for a ride, the guard began shooting,” Gonzales said.

The guard without a word shot Cailet in the abdomen and fled the crime scene.

The victim was taken to the Amang Rodriguez Hospital for treatment.

A spent shell of an unknown caliber was recovered at the crime scene, Gonzales.

The Marikina police said they would investigate the incident even if employees of the restaurant refused to shed light on what happened.
