School principal in Davao Oriental suspended for drug use

TAGUM CITY – A public school principal under suspension for testing positive for drug use was arrested by authorities for possession of illegal substance in Mati City on Friday,  police said.

Senior Supt. Harry Espela, Davao Oriental police chief, identified the suspect as Alexander Flores, principal of an undisclosed public elementary school in the province.

Espela said elements of the Mati police station conducted an operation at Flores’s rented room in Upper Salazar in Barangay Central past 6 a.m. by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Emilio Dayanghirang III of 11th Regional Trial Court branch 32 in Lupon town for alleged violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Anti-Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

He said lawmen found at the principal’s room four sachets of suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia.

The suspect was reportedly recently slapped with suspension by the Department of Education (DepEd) after failing a drug test.

Flores was detained at the Mati City police office while charges were being readied against him, Espela said. CDG/rga
