Ronnie Dayan seeks immunity from suit in House testimony

Sen. Leila de Lima’s former driver and boyfriend Ronnie Dayan sought immunity from suit in connction with his testimony in the congressional inquiry on drug proliferation at the national penitentiary.

Deputy Speaker Fred Castro moved for a motion to ask House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez to grant Dayan’s request, which has yet to be approved.

Section 12 of the Witness Protection Security and Benefit Act states that “admission into the Program shall entitle such State Witness to immunity from criminal prosecution for the offense or offenses in which his testimony will be given or used and all the rights and benefits.”

Dayan was arrested in La Union last Tuesday after being cited in contempt for snubbing the hearings on the illegal drug trade at the New Bilbid Prisons.

Dayan claimed to have received drug money on De Lima’s behalf from confessed drug lord Kerwin Espinosa several times in 2014. CDG/rga
