Suspected drug lord Kerwin Espinosa on Wednesday requested for legislative immunity from the Senate before testifying on the death of his father, slain Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr.

Espinosa’s lawyer made the request before the Senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs chaired by Senator Panfilo Lacson.

“Before Kerwin will continue with his testimony, we pray and ask that he’d be given immunity your honor,” one of Espinosa’s lawyers said.

Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III then moved to seek the approval of the Senate President of Kerwin’s request.

“There’s a motion to seek the approval of the Senate President to grant Mr. Kerwin Espinosa [legislative immunity] only for the purpose of this legislative inquiry,” Lacson said.

“I’ d like to warn you that anything that you will say outside of this legislative inquiry or hearing, hindi na (won’t be) covered ng (by) legislative immunity,” he added.

No member of the committee present in the hearing objected to Sotto’s motion.

While waiting for the approval of Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, Lacson proceeded to hear the testimony of Kerwin. CDG
