GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines—This southern seaport city was hit by a 5.3-magnitude quake around early Monday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
The Phivolcs monitoring station based here bared that the 3:07 a.m. tremor occurred at 65 kilometers or 40 miles east of the city.
The United States Geological Survey reported that the quake had a depth of 161.7 kilometers and was described as tectonic in origin.
No damage was reported and local residents hardly felt the tremor.
