Vice President Leni Robredo on Monday said any attempt to oust her from office would be tantamount to “disregarding the integrity of institutions.”

Robredo repeated her plea for the public to remain vigilant in the wake of rumors that there would be a ballot recount for the vice presidential race scheduled at the end of the month.

She said she did not believe that this would take place since only the Supreme Court, sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), could order a recount.

According to the Vice President, the PET is set to meet tomorrow and an order for a recount has yet to be issued.

Losing vice presidential candidate former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is protesting the victory of Robredo, who won over him by a little over 200,000 votes in the May elections.

Over the weekend, Robredo’s office released a statement urging the public to be “more vigilant about any extralegal movements during this dark time in our history.”

“To me, with what happened in the past few days, we really have to be vigilant,” Robredo said, referring to the sudden burial of Marcos Jr.’s father, the dictator Ferdinand Marcos, at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on Friday.

The burial done on the sly sparked protests from those who said the Marcoses put one over the nation because a motion for reconsideration of the Supreme Court decision allowing the burial could still be filed until Nov. 28.

Fears were raised that the vice presidency would be next on the list of the Marcoses after they successfully buried the late strongman’s remains at the LNMB after nearly three decades of waiting.

Robredo said she also wanted to appease the people’s anxiety.

“Kaya siguro mas tumindi ang pangamba dahil sa isang bagay na hindi natin inaasahang gagawin, ginawa. So pag ganoon kasi, parati iyong pangamba, anything is possible,” the Vice President said./rga
