DAGUPAN CITY—Is Ronnie Dayan, the former driver of Sen. Leila de Lima, now in the hands of the Philippine National Police?
This question cropped up here after rumors spread on social media that Dayan had been arrested during a police raid in his hometown Urbiztondo in Pangasinan.
But Senior Supt. Ronald Oliver Lee, Pangasinan police director, said Dayan was still at large.
On Oct. 25, police searched six houses in Barangay Galarin in Urbiztondo but found no sign of Dayan.
Dayan was ordered arrested for snubbing a congressional inquiry into the proliferation of illegal drugs at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.
Last week, the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption announced a P1-million reward for Dayan’s arrest.
Supt. Jackie Candelario, provincial police spokesperson, said tracker teams had been scouring Dayan’s possible hiding places in the province and in neighboring La Union.
“We checked his relative’s house in Bacnotan [town], La Union, but we did not find him there,” Candelario said.
He said the teams had also checked reports that Dayan was hiding in a relative’s house in Mangatarem town in Pangasinan but those turned out negative. —GABRIEL CARDINOZA
