Gov’t worker freed by Abu Sayyaf after 3 months of captivity

A government employee held hostage by the Abu Sayyaf Group for three months was released on Monday in Sulu, the military said.

Elmer Ybanez Romoc boarded the M/V Bountry Cruiser from Jolo and was fetched by his family and personnel of the Anti-Kidnapping Group at the Zamboanga City Wharf at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Major Filemon Tan said Wednesday.

The kidnap victim was released on Monday evening in the town of Jolo.

Romoc and his son Ricson were abducted by the bandits led by Adore Abdulla and Jaber Susukan in Brgy. Kulisap, Payao in Zamboanga Sibugay last August.

Ricson, meanwhile, remained in captivity.

Romoc was given medical attention and custodial debriefing after he was brought to Zamboanga. JE
