Failing the bar examination is painful but you have to rise to the occasion to prove everyone wrong, Public Attorneys Office (PAO) Chief Persida Rueda-Acosta said on Wednesday.
Acosta was the among the candidates for the Supreme Court position to be vacated by Associate Justice Jose Perez who will compulsory retire next month.
During the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) public interview, Acosta was asked about her taking the bar examination twice.
Acosta said her idol is Claro M. Recto, a noted statesman and an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court who took the bar examination twice.
“Claro M. Recto is my inspiration of people like me who experienced difficulties in life. If he is a man, I am a woman with the heart of a man who is courageous and will persevere regardless of the obstacles,” Acosta said.
In failing the bar examination, known as one of the most difficult licensure examinations in the country, Acosta said: “masakit po pero kailangan mong ipakita na may husay ka (It’s painful but you have to rise to the occasion to prove everyone wrong).”
“Yun pong nadapa ay bumabangon. Akala ng iba ay bobo ka pero ang Supreme Court ay gumagawa ng paraan para subukin ang tatag mo (Those who fall should rise. Some may think you’re dumb but the Supreme Court finds a way to test your strength),” Acosta said.
Acosta is a graduate of the University of the East (UE) Law. She failed in her first try but landed fourth in her second try during the 1989 bar examination.
In the ongoing 2016 bar examination, there are 6,831 bar candidates. Of the over 6,000 candidates, only 3,317 are new candidates. RAM
