MMDA: We’re doing our best to ‘manage’ traffic flow

/ 12:49 AM November 15, 2016

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Monday that the traffic situation in the capital, especially this holiday season, “would not ease up” despite all the traffic reduction schemes being implemented.

But MMDA officer in charge and general manager Tim Orbos maintained that had they not done anything, the problem would have been much worse. “That will not ease up.

I will tell you straight,” Orbos told reporters on Monday, adding: “What we are doing is managing heavy traffic.”

Among the factors which Orbos said was contributing to traffic congestion this holiday season was the influx of people heading to the capital either for business or to welcome back their relatives.

“We are managing [traffic] to the point that it will be manageable. We are trying to find ways to restore order and discipline to our roads,” Orbos said.

“We are not saying that we are solving the problem immediately, that’s difficult. We have to help each other.”—Jovic Yee
