LUCENA CITY, Philippines—Three motorcycle riders, including a nine-year old boy, were killed in two separate road accidents in Candelaria town in Quezon province Friday evening, police said Saturday.
Police Officer 1 Albert Cortez, Candelaria police investigator, said motorcycle driver Romell Baldeo, 18, was negotiating the Candelaria-San Juan, Batangas road in Barangay (village) Sta. Catalina Norte when his vehicle collided with a closed van truck coming from the opposite direction at around 6:40 p.m.
Baldeo and his brother Romnic, 9, who was riding with him, both died while being taken to the United Candelaria Doctors Hospital due to serious injuries.
Cortez said the victims were not wearing the mandatory crash helmets when the incident happened. Wearing crash helmets for all riders of two-wheeled motorized vehicle is mandated under Republic Act No. 10054, otherwise known the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009”.
In another road accident, motorcycle rider Keno Ryan Mayo, 20, was traversing the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Bukal Sur when he was sideswiped by an unidentified vehicle at around 8:15 p.m.
The victim died while being transported to Candelaria District Hospital due to fatal injuries. Police are conducting investigation on the incident.
