Mandaue execs say Cebu City trucks can enter but . . .

07:12 AM October 28, 2011

THE Mandaue City government may allow Cebu City’s garbage truck to pass through its streets in going to a dump site in Consolacion but not during peak hours.

This was agreed during the board meeting of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team) according to its head, Edwin Ermac.

Ermac revealed they will soon be implementing the truck ban ordinance, which is between 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. every day.

But Ermac said Cebu City’s garbage trucks will surely add to the traffic congestion in the city.

“Traffic naman gani nga wala pa sila muagi so musamot na ni, pero amo paninguwaon nga dili ma traffic (Traffic is already congested now even without Cebu City’s garbage trucks),” he added.

The Cebu City government has 100 garbage trucks and each is expected to pass through Mandaue City three times a day .

Lawyer James Abadia, Mandaue City Administrator, clarified that the consideration they gave to Cebu City’s request is not a bargain on Mandaue City driver’s plea to allow Mandaue city jeepneys enter Cebu City’s streets.

He added they need a deeper study on Cebu City’s request as they will be passing about 300 times considering that they have 100 garbage trucks.

But Abadia said they will welcome if the city decides to amend its terminal ordinance and allow Mandaue City jeepneys to ply the downtown area of Cebu City again.

He said the commuters and drivers are the ones affected on the ban and not the the local government of Mandaue./REPORTER JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
