Datu gives USC lone gold in U-Games swim event
THE UNIVERSITY of San Carlos (USC) swimming team made up for its football team’s subpar performance as it bagged one gold, one silver and four bronze medals yesterday in the 16th University Games held in Capiz, Roxas City.
USC’s gold was contributed by Hannah Datu, who ruled the 400-meter freestyle event.
USC’s star tanker Loren Dale Echavez only managed a silver finish in her favorite event, the 100m freestyle, and bronze medals in the 400m and 200m freestyle events.
Echavez only had a week’s practice for the competition because she had just recovered from chicken pox.
USC’s remaining bronze medals were contributed by its 4×100 medley relay and 4×50 freestyle relay teams.
The 4×100 medley relay team was manned by Claudine Candia, Roselle Diaz, Lorenz Goyenechea and Echavez.
