(UPDATE) Senator Leila de Lima on Wednesday took a swipe at President Rodrigo Duterte as she expressed reservations on a possible presidency of Republican Donald Trump in the United States.
De Lima said a president who disrespects women is dangerous.
“Oh it’s very dangerous especially to the misogynistic male contender as Mr. Trump,” the lady senator said when asked about Trump during an US election watch party hosted by the US Embassy.
“A Trump in the Philippines would be enough.”
She was apparently alluding to President Duterte who has been likened to Trump before because of his inappropriate remarks and behavior toward women.
The President recently admitted that he and Finance Secretary Dominguez checked out Vice President Leni Robredo’s knees during a Cabinet meeting.

De Lima, on the other hand, lauded her “personal choice,” Democrat Hillary Clinton, for upholding women’s rights.
Noting that the Philippines was way ahead of the US, De Lima said that now is the time for America to elect its first woman President.
“I’m here to monitor the US elections. It’s an exciting elections, a historic one and even if I’m not an American, my personal choice and definitely my own choice is another woman,” she said.
“I see Secretary Clinton as a strong and principled woman with enough experience and competence to be able to handle the job well,” she added. CBB/TVJ
