Malacañang on Monday assured the public that there will be transparency in the investigation on the death of Mayor Rolando Espinosa, following remarks from former president Benigno Aquino III that he will monitor the probe.
“We assure everyone, including former President Noynoy Aquino, that we are one with the entire country wanting to find out the truth surrounding the tragic death of Albuera town Mayor Rolando Espinosa,” the Office of the Communications Secretary said in a statement.
“We expect the Philippine National Police to handle the case with utmost transparency and impartiality, leaving no stone unturned in search of the truth,” it added.
It said the administration “does not condone and tolerate any summary killings.”
Aquino, who has refused to speak against the Duterte administration, told reporters on Sunday that he will wait for the investigation on the death of Espinosa, who was killed inside his detention cell.
