A low pressure area (LPA) and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will dump rains in most parts of the country, the state weather bureau said Friday.

The low pressure area was last sighted 95 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar, while the ITCZ is affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides are expected over Bicol region, Eastern Visayas and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will be experienced over Mimaropa, the rest of Calabarzon and of Visayas and Mindanao, Pagasa said.

Cloudy skies with light rains will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Tropical storm Meari, located 1,520 kilometers east of Luzon, remained stationary and was moving north at 7 kilometers per hour. Pagasa said it has now a small chance of entering the Philippine area of responsibility because it was moving north and will recurve instead. CDG/rga
