Three foreigners were arrested on Tuesday after they were caught shoplifting in a supermarket in Quezon City.
They were identified as William al-Enzi, 21; Abdulaziz Barnawi, 20; and Ammar Hamood, 20, all Saudi Arabian nationals.
The three are students of different universities in Manila who live together in Barangay Valencia, Quezon City.
Case investigator George Caculba of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), said that the three entered a supermarket on Broadway Avenue in New Manila, at 7:30 p.m on Nov. 1.
A security guard said he saw the suspects placing two pieces of car freshener, two deodorant bottles and a tube of toothpaste worth over P500 in a gray backpack. As they were leaving the store, the guard asked them for a receipt and detained them after they failed to do so.
Caculba said the three were first-time offenders who did not say why they were stealing the grocery items.
He added that they did not appear to be drunk or high on illegal substances.
Al-Enzi, Barnawi and Hamood later underwent inquest proceedings in the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office before they were placed in the custody of the QCPD-CIDU.
Caculba said that they would also inform the Saudi Arabia Embassy of the arrest of its three nationals.
