4 communist rebels killed in Cagayan clash

MANILA, Philippines—Four suspected New Peoples Army members were killed in an encounter in Cagayan Thursday morning, the Philippine National Police said.

PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said the communist rebels shot it out with members of the 17th Infantry Battalion in Barangay San Miguel in Baggao town at around 5 a.m.

Four rebels were killed during the clash, he said.

Seized from the rebels were two M16 rifles, a shotgun and subversive documents, said Cruz.
