A fetus estimated to be around five months old was placed in a transparent jar inside a box and left amid a pile of garbage in Mandaluyong City on Tuesday morning.

Barangay (village) Addition Hills officers of Blk 41 discovered the fetus after residents reported the incident around 11:35 am.

According to an 8-year-old boy who was asked to throw the garbage in a plastic bag in exchange for P10, he immediately called the attention of a resident when he saw the jar with a fetus.

The boy led barangay officers to the residence of a certain Rochelle who denied the fetus came from her.

The unclaimed fetus will be brought to Aglipay Cemetery.

Barangay officer Teddy Malimban said they will continue probing the case and look for the mother of the fetus.

“This could be a case of abortion. If the fetus was aborted, the mother should have sought Barangay assistance. She should not just throw the fetus away,” PO1 Michelle Cabiggat said.

Malimban said this is the fifth time in two years that a fetus was discovered or thrown away in the said village. RAM/rga
