Duterte to visit parents’ tomb in Davao

President Rodrigo Duterte is set to visit the tomb of his parents on Tuesday at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in his hometown Davao City.

The President will visit the tomb of his father former Gov. Vicente Duterte and mother Soledad Duterte on Tuesday, Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go said in a text message to reporters.

Duterte usually visits the graves of his parents on All Saints’ Day, on their death anniversaries and on their birthdays.

After his insurmountable lead during the May elections, the former Davao City mayor visited his parents’ tomb and wept uncontrollably.

“No amount of success, power or position can ever compensate for the greed and corruption of human character. Truly, Christ was right in asking the question: ‘For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world yet forfeit his own soul?’” Duterte said.

The chief executive then challenge Filipinos, particularly government officials to be “true servant-leaders.”

“Let us answer the call to be true servant-leaders; let us accumulate riches, not for ourselves, but for future generations and for the life that comes after,” he said.

He wished the faithful a “solemn and meaningful” commemoration of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day.

“With a keen appreciation for the material treasures that bring us closer to God, let us continue to pursue an agenda for genuine change that will be for the best interests of our people,” he said. CDG
