Deen collars 5th crown in CCC Annual Club C’ship

ERIC DEEN bagged his fifth men’s club championship title after besting Jovi Neri 2 and 1 in the 36-hole matchplay event of the 2010 Annual Club and Class Championships of the Cebu Country Club, which came to an end last Saturday.

Deen and Neri led in their respective groups in the top 16 determined by a 36-hole stroke play elimination round.

The top 16 was divided into two groups and played matches until only two were left.

Deen squeak past Macky Michael after going five holes up with four to go then bested Mark Anthony Dy 4 and 2 to arrange a titular match against Neri.

Neri, who settled for the first runner-up honors, dismissed Ricky Brown and Jufil Sato enroute to the championship.

In the class B division, Evans Tumaliwan went 1 up against Kiddy Limchao Jr. for the title.

Tumaliwan and Limchao advanced to the final round after methodically dismissing their opponents in the top 16.

Tumaliwan beat Toby Florendo and Marvin Mendoza while Limchao downed Keisuke Tatara and Peter Lee Po Jr.

Andrew Si went 2 holes up with 1 to go over Henry Dy to clinch the class C title.

Si marched past Junichi Kanda and Noel Ybanez to face off with Dy, who overcame Eric Borja and Alvin Tan.

The class D title went to Naotsugu Isobe, who went 2-up against Rhoudie Tiu.

Isobe routed Angelo Barcelo after receiving a bye in the first round of the top 16 elimination. Tiu, on the other hand, advanced to the final round by default after receiving two byes.

The seniors title was bagged by Koichi Horii after a 2 and 1 victory over MasatsuguOchiai.

Horii eliminated Mariano Martinez and Nonoy Tirol while Ochiai dropped David Lu and Efren Sarmiento.

The super seniors division was lorded by Anthony Jackson, who frustrated Ben Dapat for the title.
