CEBU CITY — A village official was killed in what the police claimed was a shootout past 11:40 p.m. on Sunday, in Barangay Malapoc, Danao City, at least 48 kilometers north of this city.

Amador Capin, barangay kagawad (village councilor) of Guinacot in Danao, was gunned down in his house in Malapoc, Danao, during a buy-bust operation conducted by the Danao City police, the Special Weapons and Tactics and the Regional Public Safety Battalion.

Capin, who was on the drugs watch list of the police, transacted with an undercover policeman who wanted to buy shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) from him, said PO3 Rosell Ocampo of Danao police.

When Capin noticed that the person he dealt with was a policeman, he immediately ran, got a gun tucked at his waist and fired at the operatives.

His bullet did not hit anyone, Ocampo said. Sensing that their lives were in danger, the operatives fired back. Capin was hit on the different parts of his body.

The police brought Capin to a hospital in Danao City but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. Recovered from his possession were a .45-pistol and 2.2 grams of shabu worth P25,960.  SFM
