Hours before they were shot by motorcycle riders, 21-year-old Yani Jebulan and his companion Arnel Cinco reportedly had an argument with another person or group at the wake of a friend, the police said on Sunday.
The wake was held just a few blocks away from the store where the victims were shot. Jebulan died instantly while Cinco was wounded.
In an interview with the Inquirer, Antipolo City police chief Supt. Ruben Andiso said that Cinco was the one who got into an argument, prompting Jebulan to jump in and defend his friend.
According to Andiso, they were still trying to identify the person or persons the two victims had argued with at the wake, adding that they were gathering footage taken by closed circuit television cameras near the crime scene.
Jebulan, a third year psychology student at the Our Lady of Fatima University in Antipolo City, was shot in the head at 12:38 a.m. Saturday in front of a store on Sta. Rosa Road, Purok II in Antipolo. He died on the spot while Cinco, who was shot thrice, was treated at a hospital.
Jebulan’s father, a retired policemen, had asked the President for help in finding his son’s killers.
