LUCENA CITY – Two brothers were shot dead by a government employee in a shooting incident after a heated drunken argument in Sariaya town in Quezon province on Saturday, police said Sunday.
A report from Quezon police headquarters said the victims, Rolando Gallardo Chavez, 57 and his younger brother Ronaldo, 45, both residents of Sariaya town, were onboard a motorcycle when they were gunned down by the suspect, Carlo Gicana, a local government employee, in Barangay (village) Poblacion 5 at around 4:30 p.m.
Rolando died on the spot while Ronaldo succumbed while being treated at the Quezon Medical Center in Lucena for gunshot wounds from a caliber 9mm.
Police said the suspect was identified by a witness to the shooting.
Citing initial investigation, Supt. Alex Dimaculangan, Sariaya police chief, said the shooting was triggered by a heated argument between the victims and the suspect, who were both under the influence of liquor. The suspect escaped after the shooting.
Dimaculangan said he had urged the father of the suspect to convince his son to surrender to police./rga
