Gina Lopez reminds cemetery-goers: Clean as you go

As Filipinos start hying off to cemeteries to pay their respects to their departed loved ones for All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day, the environment chief reminded them to please respect their surroundings as well.

“Beyond flowers and candles that punctuate our beautiful tradition of Undas, this occasion demands that we also practice environmental responsibility in honoring the memory of our dearly departed,” Environment Secretary Gina Lopez said, in a statement on Friday.

“Our dearly departed deserve our prayers and respect, not trash. Let us honor them by keeping their resting place garbage-free,” Lopez added.

Lopez urged the public to “clean as you go,” use reusable or recyclable food containers, segregate trash, and if possible to take public transportation, take bikes or walk to the cemetery.
