Former Chief Justice Manuel V. Moran, the first Filipino ambassador to Spain and the Vatican, was born on Oct. 27, 1893. Appointed by then President Manuel L. Quezon, he was the first chief justice under the Republic of the Philippines, a position he held from 1945 to 1951. He died due to cerebral hemorrhage on Aug. 23, 1961.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
