A man who had just held up at gunpoint the passengers of a jeepney was killed in an alleged shootout with the police in Quezon City Wednesday night.

Jeanmar Salvaleon, also known as “Bangkoy,” died after trading shots with members of the Tactical Motorcycle Riders from the Quezon City Police District’s Station 11.

The police said they were on patrol when they spotted the 25-year-old suspect alighting from a jeepney whose passengers he had just robbed on Manga Road corner Aurora Boulevard around 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Instead of surrendering, however, Salvaleon took out a gun and tried to shoot the policemen but his weapon misfired. He was wounded and taken to the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Found in his possession were a .38-caliber pistol, two cell phones and a tablet which were stolen  from his victims.

Officials of Barangay Mariana told police investigators that Salvaleon was also involved in a robbery on Oct. 16 in New Manila where P200,000 worth of valuables were taken./rga
