SAN PEDRO CITY—An illegal drug suspect was killed in a shootout with policemen in Calamba City in Laguna province on Wednesday, police said.
Supt. Chitadel Gaoiran, information officer of the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) Police Regional Office, said Laurino Matanguihan, a resident of Barangay Parian, drew his gun when intelligence operatives tried to serve him an arrest warrant at 5 a.m.
The warrant was issued by Judge Agripino Morga of the Regional Trial Court in San Pablo City.
Matanguihan died while being taken to the JP Rizal Memorial Hospital in Calamba.
Gaoiran said police recovered a .45-caliber pistol from the suspect and a bag containing suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) worth P10,000. — ATM
