PETALING JAYA, Malaysia – A bakery franchise is apologizing for an “unfortunate incident” where a customer saw a rat on a tray of freshly-baked bread in its store at a popular mall in Kuala Lumpur.
Komugi Bakery Malaysia said that the presence of rodents was a “known issue” at the mall, where the incident is said to have occurred.
“We have been trying to resolve (the issue) for some time,” said Komugi Malaysia, commenting on the Facebook post of the incident, adding that it had reported the matter to mall management.
Komugi said that it was part of their “ongoing effort” to ensure that all their outlets and products do not get affected by “pest issues” in malls.
“We hope this doesn’t deter you from your support towards our brand,” it said.
Photos of a rat on top of a tray of freshly-baked bread started circulating on social media, after Facebook user Melon Roux uploaded the pictures on Sunday.
She did not mention the name of the bakery chain, but Komugi’s signature yellow twirls were seen in the picture.
She said that she was “stunned for a second” when she saw the rat.
“Returned all the pastries [on] my tray and told one of the staff about this. Hopefully in the future they will be more alert,” she said.
