Members of the Philippine National Police’s Special Action Force (SAF) seized a bagful of “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) during a raid inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) on Monday.

The drugs which had been packed into sachets and placed inside a plastic bag was found at Dorm 3-B, the Inquirer learned from a source.

“The drugs are in small plastic sachets. This is for ‘push’ quantities,” the source said, meaning it was ready for distribution.

Dorm 3-B which is occupied by the Sputnik Gang is on the Presidio side of the NBP, the source added. Presidio is headed by Jaybee Sebastian who recently testified against former Justice Secretary now Sen. Leila de Lima.

The Presidio side is composed of around 5,000 inmates, mostly from Luzon,  while some are Chinese.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II earlier expressed confidence that there would be no more smuggling of drugs inside the NBP due to the strict security measures being implemented by SAF troopers.

However, he admitted that it was also possible that quantities of illegal drugs remained hidden inside the prison compound.

Last month, a riot broke out in Building 14, the highly secured area for VIP inmates, leaving Chinese drug lord Tony Co dead and Sebastian and three others wounded.
