Knife-wielding man takes 3 hostages in Cavite

LOS BAÑOS, Laguna—A man believed to be under the influence of illegal drugs held three persons hostage inside an apartment in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, on Saturday afternoon.

Cavite police director Sr. Supt. Arthur Bisnar, in a phone interview, said the knife-wielding suspect, whose identity was still being determined by the police, entered the Rembulat Compound in Barangay (village) Salitran 1 around 2 p.m.

The man, he said, took three persons hostage—two minors and a 20-year old.

Around 3 p.m., the suspect released one of the hostages, but the 20-year-old and an 8-year-old child remained in his custody.

“Negotiation is ongoing with the crisis management council of the city taking over,” Bisnar said. He said the suspect is demanding “a camera (media coverage) and a vehicle.”

Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (Calabarzon) police information officer Supt. Chitadel Gaoiran, in a text message, said the suspect was believed to be high on illegal drugs.
