MANILA, Philippines—The Armed Forces of the Philippines has promised to “fully cooperate” with the Department of Justice and Commission on Elections which are jointly investigating the alleged electoral fraud in the 2007 senatorial elections.
In a press briefing held at the Camp Aguinaldo, AFP spokesman Colonel Arnulfo Burgos said that the DoJ served the subpoena for six personnel under the Intelligence Service of the AFP or ISAFP on Tuesday.
“The Armed Forces of the Philippines will fully cooperate with the process,” said Burgos, adding, “The military will uphold the rule of law.”
Subpoenaed by the DoJ are Jeremy Javier, Romy Dayday, John Doe alias “Major Joey Leaban”, Colonel Reuben Basiao, John Oliver Leaban and another John Doe alias “Captain Peter Reyes”.
They would appear before the DoJ-Comelec committee members on November 3 for the preliminary investigations.
The respondents are facing complaints of electoral sabotage and violation of the Omnibus Election Code for their alleged involvement in rigging the 2007 senatorial elections in Mindanao to ensure the victory of candidates from the Team Unity of the Arroyo administration.
