ILOILO CITY—A labor group based in Negros Occidental is demanding an increase in daily minimum wage of workers by up to P101 per day.

In a petition submitted to the wage board of Negros Island Region (NIR), the labor group Philippine Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Workers Union-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (Paciwu-TUCP) said workers in NIR deserve an increase of P88 to P101 per day in daily wage.

But since the status of NIR is in limbo following President Duterte’s statement that he wanted the region abolished, the region’s wage board has not been organized.

The wage boards of other regions—Western and Central Visayas—are the ones hearing the wage petition.

Lawyer Ma. Ailyne Valaquio, acting secretary of the Western Visayas wage board, said the Paciwu-TUCP petition would be considered as submitted to the Western and Central Visayas wage board.

Western Visayas is composed of the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras and Iloilo while provinces under Central Visayas include Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor.
