Malacañang on Tuesday said the administration did not want to preempt the much-awaited Supreme Court ruling on the planned hero’s burial for the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
In a press briefing at the presidential palace, assistant secretary Marie Banaag of the Presidential Communications Office reiterated that President Rodrigo Duterte was “so clear about him respecting the decision of the Supreme Court on that matter.”

Banaag said there were no tentative schedule and preparations yet for Marcos’ interment at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in case the high tribunal would allow it.
“So far there are no official pronouncements as to the exact date yet on the Marcos burial. No exact date yet … So far, wala pa (preparations) because we don’t want to preempt the decision of the Supreme Court. We don’t know of course the decision of the Supreme Court so we will wait for it,” she said.

The high court on Tuesday extended to Nov. 8 the status quo ante order that temporarily stopped preparations for the planned Sept. 18 burial.
Citing national healing and the late dictator’s stint as soldier, Duterte, a known Marcos ally, was pushing for the hero’s burial despite strong opposition from rights advocates, martial law victims, and the general public.
